Our skin is our body's largest organ. It's our first line of defense when it comes to free radicals and pollutants in the environment. A great way to think of skin is it's our body coat. It protects our internal organs and helps regulate our body temperature.
There are three different layers of the skin, the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous fat.
The epidermis is the outer layer of skin, this texture changes on some parts of the body, for example on the eye lids the skin is thinner than the skin on the knees or on the bottom of the our feet. This is because certain areas are harder or softer base on the level of protection it provides to that body part. Our eyelid is softer because the eye is very delicate, whereas the bottom of our feet is harder because we walk on it and it provides more protection.
The Dermis is the next layer. This layer helps us to feel, It sends messages to our brain letting us know if we are hot, cold or if someone is touching us. In this layer of skin is also where our sweat glands are stored. Sweat glands are little tubes that are connected to our pores which sweat is released through.
The last layer is know as the subcutaneous fat, in this layer is where most of our body's fat is stored to protect us from getting major injuries when we fall or get bruised. This is also where our body regulates heat sort of like a thermometer.
Now that we understand that there is so much function that our skin has to perform inorder for us to be at our best. We should nuture and protect our skin by offering it great natural and organic products that will not interfere with it's daily function.
